AN ELSECAR pub which has been closed since April has been reopened by a businessman who runs the shop opposite.

Amandeep Singh Cheema, of Singh's Convenience Store, bought the Clothiers Arms as he heard Tesco were interested in buying the building opposite his Hill Street shop.

The bar has been refurbished as part of the revamp and plans have been submitted to the council for three flats above the pub - two, two bedroom-properties and a one-bedroom.

He also has plans to add a restaurant area, serving Indian cuisine.

The pub was originally put up for sale by pub company, Admiral Taverns for £225,000 before being slashed to £125,000 and then £110,000 in July.
