A GRIMETHORPE brass band's future is under threat, due to a lack of funding.

The band - which was the inspiration for the 90s film Brassed Off - has lost sponsorship money and is surviving only on income from performance bookings.

Michael Dugher, MP, says Grimethorpe Colliery is facing an uncertain future.

He added: ''Brass bands are an important part of our heritage, but when it comes to funding and grants, they're clearly undervalued and underappreciated.''
