TRAINS from Barnsley running to Sheffield are delayed by up to one hour due to a police incident in Wombwell that has now been resolved.

Earlier this morning, British Transport Police - assisted by air ambulance and the police helicopter - flocked to the train line amid reports that a man had been hit by a train on the tracks.

It caused delays for rail users as trains were stopped while police investigated.

A man has now been arrested for trespassing on the rail lines and trains are now running. A spokesman for British Transport Police told We Are Barnsley there has been no injuries.

A spokesman for British Transport Police added: “Officers were called to the line close to White Cross Lane, on Friday, 23 September at 9.25am following the report of a man on the tracks. “A search of the area was carried out together with South Yorkshire Police and a man was located nearby. “A 27-year-old from Barnsley was arrested on suspicion of obstructing the railway and has been taken into custody.”
