A MAN is fighting for his life after being struck by a car in a hit and run last night.
Witnesses report seeing two cars travelling close together from Town End roundabout on Racecommon Road going towards Longcar Lane at around 7.20pm on Wednesday, December 12.
One of the cars hit the man and then they both fled the scene, driving off to the traffic lights and turning right onto Park Road.
The 50-year-old man from Barnsley sustained multiple life-threatening injuries and was taken to Barnsley District General Hospital. He has now been transferred to Northern General Hospital for urgent care.
Police are now trying to trace both car drivers. The car that hit the pedestrian is thought to be a silver Ford with a saloon shape.
A spokesman said: "This car will have damage to the driver’s side and possibly a broken window and/ or headlight.
"Initial witness reports suggest the driver was a white man, aged under 50-years-old and with longish fair hair.
"There is no description of the second car or driver."
