ROYSTON fire station is to be listed for sale as firefighters prepare to move out at the end of the month.
The site, which has been used by fire fighters for the last 50 years, is being closed down as part of budget cuts.
In the meantime, Sout Yorkshire Fire and Rescue say it is looking for community groups and charities looking for a short term home to move in at nil rent until a permanent buyer is found.
SYFR Head of Asset Management Andrew Stevens said: “Royston fire station has served the public for half a century. Now that its operational activity is coming to an end, we’re looking forward to finding a local community group interested in occupying the property until a permanent sale is achieved.
“This is a large site, with excellent facilities with the added quirk of being home to local firefighters since the 1960s. We hope that the building’s useful life can be extended by offering a much needed, short-term home to a group in need.”
