THE MIDWIVES at Barnsley Hospital will discover next month if they have won a coveted national award.

The team has been shortlisted for 'Maternity Services of the Year' by the Royal Collage of Midwifes (RCM) Award and is up against The Ipswich Hospital and Powys Teaching Health Board.

Barnsley Hospital's head of midwifery Sue Gibson said: “It is a real honour to have been shortlisted for the title.

”Midwifery services in Barnsley have a higher than average normal delivery rate thanks to the range of innovative services offered to women thinking about having a baby, during pregnancy and while in labour."

The services include drop in active birth sessions, out of hour’s clinics for working women, offering flu vaccines in antenatal clinics, an exercise referral scheme to Barnsley Premier Leisure and a Hypno birthing service.

Winners will be announced on January 24.
