A DISEASE which could make ash trees extinct has been found in some trees in Barnsley.
The trees at Kirk Balk School and Carlton Community College were found to have ash dieback and have had to be removed and incinerated.
A council spokesman said: "In both cases the trees were imported to the UK having been already infected, prior to planting.
"The trees were traced by the Food and Environment Research Agency based on sales information provided by the initial importer.
"Penistone Grammar Advanced Learning Centre site was also tested but no evidence of the disease was found."
