BARNSLEY Council have responded after Reds players were issued parking tickets while dropping off presents for sick children.

The Barnsley FC Squad went up to Barnsley Hospital Children's Ward yesterday (Tuesday) to hand out TVs and DVDs to the children.

But when they came out, many of them found parking fines had been put on their cars, prompting Brad Kilburn to tweet a photo of the bright yellow tickets with the comment: "We have all just got parking tickets outside Barnsley Hospital. Cheers Barnsley Council."

Coun Miller, a spokesman for Barnsley Council, said the players had parked in the residents' parking zone that surrounds the hospital where a valid permit needs to be displayed.

He added: "The parking tickets were issued correctly.

“I’m sure that had Barnsley Football Club asked the hospital for assistance with parking, arrangements could have been made, alternatively they could have paid to park.”
