A POLICE officer who pulled  a woman from a burning building in Wombwell has been praised.

Chris Thompson received a Commander's Commendation at the police awards ceremony.

PCSO of the Year was Katherine McFadzean (Central SNT) and won because of her excellent work in Barnsley over the last year.

The Jan Parton Police Staff of the Year Outstanding Achievement was awarded to Peter Murray from the Intelligence Unit.

PC Andrea Batty, of Darton/Dodworth SNT, was awarded the Safer Neighbourhood Team Officer of the year for her exceptional drive and performance in identifying and acting upon the priorities of her area and creating robust public engagement structures and also mentoring her colleagues.

The special constable of the year was awarded to A/Special Sergeant Laura-Jayne Gamble, who will also be put forward for the Force Special Constable of the Year.

Commander's Commendations were also presented to: PCSO Andrea Ford (Dodworth), PCSO Jonathan Bentley (Royston) and Barnsley response officers PC Ryan Griffiths, PC Mark Winter, PC Christopher Phillips, PC Robert Simpson.
