THOUSANDS of lights are expected to be lit in memory of people who have died.
Barnsley Hospice is running four special 'Light Up A Light' services where people can sponsor a light on a Christmas tree. The lights will shine until the middle of December.
The annual services are being held in St Mary’s Church in the town centre and at the hospice in Gawber.
Last year more than 2,000 lights were sponsored in memory of loved ones, raising a total of £37,000 for the hospice.
Anne Wood, the hospice’s spiritual advisor, said: “This time of the year can be very hard for people who have lost someone close. Having ways of remembering and celebrating their lives can be a comfort.”
The two services at St Mary’s Church are on December 2nd at 3.30pm and 7pm.
The two non-religious services at the hospicese are on Tuesday 4th December and Tuesday 11th December, both at 6.30pm.
The first service on the 2nd is already booked up.
