A THURNSCOE man who dragged a disabled man to safety from a blaze has been given a bravery award.
Glen Howell, 39, was going home with his wife and family on September 22 when they saw the fire at one of the flats on Peartree Avenue.
He went into the flat, which was full of thick smoke and by keeping low to the ground, he was able to find the occupant, a heavily intoxicated disabled man, and carry him to safety.
Mr Howell then went to the door of the upstairs neighbour and receiving no reply, went in and met the resident who was awoken by the noise. Mr Howell told the man to get out and they were both able to leave safely.
Chief Superintendent for Barnsley, Andy Brooke, said the award is in recognition of his courage and excellent public service.
