A WOMAN had to be cut free from her car after smash in Cawthorne.

Firefighters used hydraulic cutting gear to free the woman after her car swerved off the road and hit a tree on Norcroft Lane, Cawthorne at 6am this morning (Thursday.)

Two engines from Barnsley fire station attended the scene to free the woman.

A spokesman said: "The woman was conscious and breathing and firefighters removed the roof of the vehicle to get her out of the car.

"She was taken to hospital by ambulance."
