A £500 reward is being offered to catch the arson culprits responsible for setting fire to the Royston Park bandstand.

The cash - being offered for information leading to the conviction of the arsonist - follows the fire last month which caused over £5,000 worth of damage.

Coun Tim Cheetham said: "It's a sum of money we simply don't have.

"What we're suggesting is that the people responsible pay for the damage rather than the public.

"One message coming loud and clear from the people I speak to, is that they no longer want to foot the bill for the irresponsibility or wrongdoing of others."

The reward money has been set aside by the Royston Community Fund and Coun Cheetham said he hopes the reward secures a conviction - with the arsonist being forced to pay for the repairs.

Anyone with any information about the fire is encouraged to contact the police on 101.
