A PLAQUE which commemorates the fallen soldiers of World War One who went to Holgate Grammar School is on display.

The plaque - which lists the names of 75 'Holgate Boys' - is at Cooper Gallery, Church Street.

Holgate Grammar School was originally housed in the building which is now the Cooper Gallery, until 1912, when Holgate moved to its site on Shaw Lane. It has recently merged into the new Horizon Community College.

John Bostwick, a Cooper Gallery Trustee, said: “It is appropriate that the board of Remembrance for the First World War is to be erected in the Cooper Gallery, the former Holgate Grammar School, as these men were educated in this building.”
