GIANT poppies have been installed on some of Barnsley's landmark buildings to mark Remembrance Day.

The large display poppies have been positioned on the entrance archway to Barnsley Market, at Cannon Hall Museum and on the Alhambra.

Coun Linda Burgess said: "Barnsley Council and the Barnsley branch of the Market Traders Federation have joined together to display this symbol of the town's proud support for the annual Poppy Campaign and the vital work of the Royal British Legion.

"We are grateful to the Legion for helping to arrange this large poppy symbol at the entrance to the markets area in May Day Green. It will be in place for both the Remembrance service on 11 November and the Light Dragoons homecoming parade next Tuesday, 13 November."
