CONFUSION over the Christmas celebrations for Barnsley has been cleared up by the council.

A spokesman confirmed this morning that there will be no Christmas Pop Concert - as there has been in previous years.

Last year, the Pop! event was a sell-out at the Metrodome, and featured X-Factor rejects and local bands.

A council spokesman added: "There won't be a Christmas Goes Pop concert this year. We're focusing on family friendly events in the town centre."

This year, children's TV character Mike The Knight will be flicking the switch at the Alhambra Balcony in the town centre at 6pm on November 21.

Festivities start at 5pm with a roadshow led by Dearne FM on the balcony, that will feature local entertainment.
