A SPECIAL memorial service for families who have lost a baby or child will be held at the weekend.

Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust will hold the service in the hospital’s chapel at 2pm on Sunday (October 14).

The service is open to all family members and there will be a tree of babies and children’s names and families will be invited to light a candle in memory of those they wish to remember.

At the end of the service, balloons will be released from the hospital’s memorial garden.

Paula Paynter, one of the hospital’s counsellors, said: “The service brings peace to a lot of families who have experienced great sorrow and provides families with the opportunity to confront their grief and share their feelings with others who have gone through similar situations."
