A MAJOR campaign to encourage people to stop smoking has launched in Barnsley today.
The 'Stoptober' campaign aims to help people stop smoking for more than 28 days after research shows that anyone who makes it past that milestone are five times more likely to stay smoke free.
It is run by the South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and offers a daily messaging service, inspiration from celebrity mentors, and expert advice.
Ali Thornton-Delve, smoking cessation specialist, said: “As well as the financial benefits of stopping smoking, those undertaking the 28 day programme will experience physical improvements including a better sense of smell and taste and more energy.
“This is the first time a mass quit attempt has been organised which involves people across the country and I would encourage all smokers in Barnsley to take the opportunity to get involved and make a quit attempt.”
