TESCO has confirmed a zebra crossing will be put in place outside its new store in Hoyland.
Litton Properties, which is building the store, confirmed the zebra crossing was considered the best option.
Mark Rothery from Litton Properties said: "We have had further discussions with the relevant officers within Barnsley Council and agreed the best option for Wombwell Road is to provide a zebra crossing.
"The plan for the crossing should be going in front of the Planning Regulatory Board in September and we look forward to providing a new Tesco supermarket in Hoyland as soon as possible."
A Litton Properties' spokesman said developers should be on site by early October.
A pelican crossing was stipulated last year as part of the planning permission to build the new supermarket on Market Street.
But Litton properties asked Barnsley Council to remove the condition earlier this year as it was not mentioned in discussions with technical officers at the council and it could cause unnecessary traffic build-ups on the road.
