BARNSLEY Council has stepped in to quash rumours that there is a delay to the opening of the new Netherwood School.

Rumours were circulating that the opening was delayed due to a damaged roof - but the council insist that it was always the intention to have staggered return dates for the new students.

A spokesman added: "We are not aware of any damage to the roof, neither is the contractor so we are not sure where the rumour has come from.

"The building is it's last phase and it is normal that work is carried out on all areas of the building right up to handover. We have no reason to believe that the building will be late in opening."
