THE UNION flag is flying at half mast on the town hall today in memory of a soldier who was killed in Afghanistan.
The soldier, who has yet to be named, served with The Light Dragoons and was killed on Sunday Sept 9.
The soldier was killed when the vehicle in which he was travelling struck an improvised explosive device in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand province.
Spokesman for UK Forces Afghanistan, Lieutenant Colonel Richard Parry, said: "I have the sad duty to inform you that a soldier from the Light Dragoons has died as a result of wounds sustained while on duty in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand province."
The thoughts and prayers of everyone serving in Task Force Helmand are extended to his family and friends at this extremely difficult time."
