A CRACKDOWN on shoplifting in Barnsley has seen police use automatic number plate recognition to track down the borough's worst offenders.

The day of action in Barnsley has seen the police focus on vehicles that are known to be linked to retail crime.

Crime reduction officers have also been speaking to staff at shops across the borough to prepare them on how to deal with persistent offenders.

And cardboard cut outs of police officers have been placed in shops - like Primark, B&Q, Asda, Tesco, Budgens and the Co-op in a bid to deter thieves.
