A MAJOR police operation in Barnsley today has seen 15 people arrested and 40 people searched for drugs.
The borough wide impact operation saw passive drugs dogs out in force in the town centre, randomly checking areas like Cheapside, Peel Square and the Transport Interchange.
A spokesman said: "Police in Barnsley have been out in the town centre with support from mounted officers and dog handlers as part of an operation to target the main offenders in the borough.
"So far officers have arrested two people for theft and one for burglary and one for prison recall. They have stopped and searched a total of 40 people in the town centre."
The town centre operation was running at the same time as others in the districts - in total 15 arrests have been made so far for crimes like burglary, vehicle crime and drugs.
