PLANS for a new school in the Dearne area have been rejected by the government after fierce opposition from other local schools and an MP.
MP John Healey was worried the proposals for Three Valleys Independent Academy at Manvers would take millions of pounds of taxpayers money to pay for a school that the community did not want.
He said: “Our local headteachers and councils have all been united with me in opposition and concern for the damage a new free school would have on existing schools and pupils’ education.
The Three Valleys plan was weak from the outset – the company have no experience of secondary education, didn’t prove there was any demand for a new school and couldn’t say how they would do better for our young people than any of the schools we have here already.”
What do you think? Does the Dearne need a new school? Is this good news or bad news?
