A LAD from Barnsley is running a relay into Barnsley Town Hall's clock tower in memory of his dad who died of brain cancer.
Jack Wilson, 8, will join 99 other fundraisers for a relay that will see an Olympic torch carried up the steps of the town hall to the clock tower.
Mum Suzanne Wilson will complete the final leg of the race - taking the torch into the clock face in memory of husband Daniel who died following a lengthy and traumatic battle with brain cancer last year.
The relay is going to be physically challenging for Jack, because he struggles to climb stairs and has to take regular medication to control chronic pain caused from severe joint hypermobility syndrome, hypotonia and Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
He said: “I really want to do this for my Daddy. I miss him and wish I could see him again. If I do this he will be proud of me because it might stop somebody else’s Daddy from dying.”
The torch they will be carrying belonged to Ian Meek, 42, from Leeds who died of brain cancer in August. He raised over £100,000 for Brain Tumour Research (BTRS.)
The event has been organised by University Campus Barnsley’s (UCB) Music and Radio Society’s Radio team, (MARS.Radio) in collaboration with Barnsley Council. It will begin at 10am on August 20.
