Gallery & exhibition remains open to public until 4pm.
Exhibition continues to 11 April 2018
Strata: structures, transformation and solidarity explores themes relating to the region’s social, cultural, industrial and natural histories, and forges connections with international locations on the ERIH - European Route of Industrial Heritage. A centrepiece of the exhibition is a two-screen video installation, which combines original cinematography with an atmospheric soundtrack score by Lord Mongo, voices from the community, archive film and audio, forming an immersive and poetic picture of collective memory, shared experience and international solidarity.
Alongside the film, the artists will be exhibiting new drawings, found objects, 3D animation, and banners on loan from the National Union of Mineworkers and Women Against Pit Closure. The exhibition forms part of Meeting Point2, a year-long project led by contemporary art agency Arts&Heritage.
Taking place in the Gallery, the launch will provide an opportunity to view the exhibition and speak with the artists on how they developed the project.
