Elsecar's Cafe Manager Explains Shotgun Incident

In this first piece for We Are Barnsley, we hear from Fran what drove him to the decision he made. As said before and i'll say again well done franni for all your work u changed the park round when u moved in and helped make it a better place to visit why should u be hounded my youths making a mess and spoiling things. The park has for the last 20-25yrs been used for drinking drugs and yes sex, u have learnt the hard way by losing everything so yet again the youths have won to continue damage to a now not looked after park.

What has happened with the kids who were doing the vandalising ? Have their parents made them go sort out the mess they made ? Or gave them a pat on the back back for getting Mr mcdonald in trouble ??? some parents need to teach their kids to respect other peoples property & keep out of the park at night ! Maybe the gun wasnt an ideal thing, maybe you should have took there picture and put them up round hoyland so their parents feel guilty for their behaver !!!

I Don't think that Mr Macdonald is in the wrong. I am 14 myself and think that what the youngsters are to blame as Mr Macdonald was just trying to keep his park presentable. I know how beautifully the park has been kept ever since he & his family moved in as before it wasn't half as clean as it is now. The youngsters should also be charged as an act of vandilism, I live a 5 minute walk away from Elsecar park and fear to walk through on my own on a friday and saturday night due to their behavior as they use the park for a place to get drunk and can be quite violent. Maybe if he didn't do what he has, this behavior would carry on & a worse incident could occour with the next owners.
