Memories Of Barnsley Bus Station – PODCAST!

WAB Radio’s John Irwin and Peter White hosted their regular Wednesday night memories show tonight talking about this photograph and your memories of Barnsley bus station.

They talked about the good old days when you could smoke upstairs on a bus and the old cafes in the bus station, recapping on over 50 submitted memories through our FB page.

    I remember the ‘Threp-ni bit’ in the bus station my mum bought me some spangles from there when I was really small – It must have been around 1968/69 as it was before I started school in Sept ’69. I always remember it as she bought me some white knee length boots as I liked the ones that the girls wore on TOTP!! ha ha

    I remember how friendly and hopefull people used to be back then. Before things went all politically correct, and health and safety  aware.

    Remember the bus station of the 60s i was only about 3 when there was a Dalek collecting for charity, mum gave me money to put in the collection tin, was very wary and after much thought ran put it in and ran off screaming mi head off it was gunna exterminate mi……lol…

    After the football match at Oakwell, there were a line of Traccy buses that ran the length of Grove Street. Buses always used to be full and crowds seemed a lot bigger back then!

    I remember when the driver would shout down the bus for the “2′s & 4′s” to stand up & let the adults sit down when the buses were busy.  They wouldn’t dare do that now, it’d be infringing the little darlings human rights.
