Walk To Honour Barnsley Soldier
Thursday September 6 2012
A GROUP of walkers have set off on a 73 mile walk today in memory of a Barnsley soldier who died in Afghanistan.
Matthew Thornton, 28, from Darton was killed in November by an improvised explosive device. His dad Mick has helped organise the Barnsley Boundary Walk which started today to raise money for Help The Heroes.
The walk is expected to take three and a half days and the walkers are hoping to raise money towards a £100,000 target for the charity after a number of events taking place in Matthew's memory.
The walk began at Matthew's grave at All Saints Church, Darton and the group will return to there at the end of the walk on September 9.
