Elsecar Park And Ride Announced As Transport Bid Is Successful

A NEW park and ride at Elsecar train station is to be developed as part of an overhaul of Barnsley's transport network.

Barnsley will get a share of the £24.6 million allocated by the government for the South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive to help make it easier for locals to get to and from work.

Part of the cash will be spent on priority bus services and, in Dearne Valley, cycle routes will be installed.

The park and ride at Elsecar will be joined by a new bus feeder route at Wentworth and Shortwood which will start running this year.

Barnsley will also get cycle paths, as well as an increase in the frequency of the X19 bus service to Doncaster.

Spokesman Mick Jameson said: “We welcome this crucial Government funding which will help support economic growth and help get people back to work.

"We are confident that this funding will enable a step change in our ability to help people access jobs and help employers reach the right people.”

to be hopes pilley gets a better transport link with more buses passing through.but that wont happen because were out of sight out of mind....

Can we have more buses going to Sheffield seeing as we only have the 265! Some ppl work more than a few miles away

When are SYPTE going to put pressure on Northern Rail to reintroduce the Elsecar stop on Sheffield-Huddersfield trains? It stops at every station except Elsecar!

I would use the train if it was a better service for Elsecar. It's the only station on the route that it misses out. How can they explain that? How much longer would it take to stop at only one more station!!
