Driving test changes: What would you like to see?

Monday December 4 2017

THE driving test has changed from today - with new manoeuvres that make it more like real-world driving for learners while test takers will also have to use a Sat Nav. But what other changes would you like to see?

As part of the changes, the independent driving part of the test will increase from ten to 20 minutes.

The reverse around a corner and turn in the road manoeuvres will no longer be tested. But learners will still be tested on parallel parking, park in a bay - either driving in and backing out and pulling up on the right-hand side of the road.

Learners will still be asked the "tell me" question at the start of the test but the "show me" question will be asked during the test - for example showing how to use windscreen wipers.

The revised list of tasks in order to pass the new driving test also includes asking candidates to pull up on the right hand side of the road and reverse two car lengths - a "dangerous" manoeuvre that contradicts the Highway Code and one that driving instructors have called to change.
