Should the government do more to help parents pay for childcare?

Friday October 20 2017

What can the government do to help with the cost of childcare? What can the government do to help with the cost of childcare?

CHILDCARE costs for young children have risen up to seven times faster than wages in the last nine years, according to a new study.

Research by trade union body TUC shows that average costs in England for parents with a one-year-old rose 48 per ceny between 2008 and 2016, while average wages increased 12 per cent.

The government said it had doubled the free childcare available to working parents of three and four-year-olds.

The TUC said that while parents with children aged two and above received financial support from the government, most working parents with one-year-olds did not get any state help.

Do you think childcare is too expensive? Should the government do more to help pay for it?
