Police appeal after car arsons

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after five cars were deliberately torched across Barnsley.

The arsons occurred between midnight and 1am on Friday July 7, with the first at around 12.10am when a white Volkswagen Scirrocco, parked in Silkstone Common was set alight.

The second incident involving a blue Hyundai parked on Aqueduct Street, Honeywell, occurred around 12.50am.

The third incident involving three cars, a green Renault Scenic, a silver Citroen Xsara and a beige Citroen Xsara happened around 1am on Windsor Avenue, Kexborough.

Extensive damage was caused to all of the cars in the incidents.

DC Della O’Horo, investigating said: “Thankfully no one was hurt during the incidents, however the cars are believed to have been set alight deliberately.

“An investigation is currently ongoing and extensive enquiries have been conducted in the area. Arson is extremely dangerous and I would urge anyone with information about the incidents, or who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the area, to please report it.”

A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson in connection with the incident. He has now been released under investigation.
