Police Cordon Off Shoe Shop After Sex Assault Claim

Monday July 9 2012

A TOWN centre shoe shop was cordoned off by police yesterday after a sexual assault was reported.

Police and scenes of crimes officers flocked to the scene at Wyndsors Shoes on Doncaster Road on the early hours of Sunday morning (July 8.)

Many people came on to the We Are Barnsley facebook page, reporting that staff had been told not to go in to work while the investigation was underway.

A police spokesman said: "The cordon was later removed as the allegation proved to be false."

Sexual assault is under reported as it is because victims feel they will be judged or not believed - this is because of the over reporting of 'false rape' claims in the media - this results in comments like the one made by 'onlyme' often followed by witch hunts. She may well have been assaulted/in shock and withdrew her allegation. What was the point of this article? All you will have done is silenced a few more victims.

for jane..... if she has withdrawn her complaint then it should be her you are blaming for the false rape cry.... they do a lot more damage than the media reporting it do, and people were quite happy to believe her until she changed her mind.... does tend to make you look like a liar that, and i agree with onlyme by the way, if the complaint was true and she withdrew her claim because she was in shock then she wants her head looking at, if it was true than whats to stop the abuser doing it to someone else, she should have either stuck to her guns or not put in a false claim x

Rach I disagree. If this hadnt been reported the only people that would know about it are the police and the 2 people involved. Victims always have a fight on their hands - and reporting stories like this just makes things harder. Only 6% of assaults are reported and stories like this contribute to that low figure. PTSD is a terrible thing and if a hypothetical victim wants to withdraw her statement she should be given support not judgement.
