A BARNSLEY MP says many local families are struggling to pay their energy bills amid rising costs.

Michael Dugher, MP, says the Barnsley East constituency has the 10th highest percentage for people struggling to pay energy bills in Yorkshire and the Humber region. Typical costs of dual fuel bills has gone up by nearly 50 per cent in the last four years.

Michael said: "Energy bills are soaring, driving up inflation and contributing to the cost of living crisis afflicting families hit by the current recession. And it is clear from these latest figures that people in Barnsley East are being particularly affected."

Michael wants to government to make changes to reform the energy market so new businesses can enter it. But what do you think? What can be done to tackle soaring costs and does it affect you?

Its ridiculous the price of gas and electric. They seem to charge what they like! They could command any price per unit and the goverment is not doing a thing about it! Families cannot afford to eat properly and give their children the nutrious food! This goverment need to get a grip and put a stop to these companies charging what they like!!!

alot of people can not afford nutricous foods as the cost of foods has rocketed too . The problem isn't just rising energy costs it is a rise in all of the everyday living costs

WAB have asked me to comment on here as well as Facebook so this is my thoughts.:-

best thing govt can do is
provide all domestic properties with solar panels and wind turbines paid
for on a monthly basis, based on individual finacial circumstances.
Then the energy companies could go run up a shutter..
