A GRIEVING family are aiming to raise £10,000 for a reward to track down the killer in a decade-old murder case.

Lindsey Scholes, 17, was staying with friends at 86 Milgate Street, Royston, when a fire was started deliberately at the door of the house. Lindsey was rescued by fire fighters and taken to Barnsley District General Hospital suffering from burns and smoke inhalation. She died on September 10, 2001.

Now, her brother Shaun Meloy, 21, of Royston is leading a campaign to finally get justice - and is trying to raise money to offer a reward for information.

He said: "The police have got no new leads and so we just thought we had to do something ourselves. There's nothing else we can do - we all think that someone in the area knows something and perhaps money in this difficult time will convince them to come forward.

"It makes it worse for us not knowing what happened not knowing why this happened - we have all these questions. Why would it happen to Lindsey? Was it a mistake? Was it an accident and they didn't mean to kill anyone just scare them? It's been ten years and we've still got no answers."

Police launched a fresh appeal on the anniversary of her death last year and said they had 15 new leads - but the investigation has slowed again.

Shaun added: "We'd really appreciate some help in raising the money - at the end of the day this is for the Barnsley community as well. There is someone here what has murdered someone - who knows what else they could do? I still believe the person who did it lives here - this could be someone looking after your kids, living on your street, it's not good that we have got someone that should be in preson on the streets. We're only asking for loose change, the money you'd spend on a scratch card."
