A MURDER investigation has been launched after an 18-year-old died after being burned at a party this weekend.

The man - who has not yet been named - was at a party on Pleasant View in Cudworth, Barnsley on Friday night into the early hours of Saturday, 23, June when he sustained significant burns on his body at around 2.20 am.

He was rushed to Barnsley Hospital for treatment, then transferred to Northern General Hospital and to Pinderfields Hospital - but he died at around 11.40pm last night (Sunday, June 24.)

Six people were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on Saturday; three men, aged between 19-years-old and 39-years-old and three teenagers aged between 16-years-old and 17-years-old, all from Barnsley.

The 16-year-old female was released due to insufficient evidence and the remaining five people were bailed.

The post mortem is due to take place this afternoon.

Detectives would like to hear from anyone who was at the party on Pleasant View on Friday 22 June into Saturday morning and anyone else who may have information about the incident. Please call 101 quoting incident number 158 of 23 June.

please please take this story off, it's not a story and is heartbreaking.

It is heart-breaking and must be a difficult time for the family. However, although we are the first news organisation to report this, we will not be the last. It would be remiss of us to just 'ignore' it - especially when the police made the appeal themselves in a bid to find witnesses.

Yes this story should not be ignored, but you reported on it without real facts at your disposal  WAB are seriously guilty of hypocracy and no real guts in reporting , its obvious you are not a real media outlet just another chronicle funded mouth for the local council as you do not report all the scandal going on within the council chambers that some of us know is going on but chose to sensationalise the death of a young man in this way, Take the story down and put it up when you get some real guts to report everything you know of instead of what suits you at the time...ave some bloody respect

Most important condolences to the family and thoughts for this young man, let the Police obtain clear information and probably caution in reporting this would be wise,  because of its nature is why other media outlets may not have reported on this sad story yet

But you don't know anything nicky, thats the thing it just leads it open to speculation which is horrible. With respect WAB is at best a gossip site, a bit of fun for the locals around Barnsley. Leave it at that let the real news teams tackle the serious issues The Daily Mail for example would not allow comments on an article such as this and certainly would not link it on their Facebook page.

I must also apologise for my comment below and say how deeply saddened I am by this story, it's really upset me so again I apologise for any offence I may have caused and offer my deepest condolences to all who knew the young man

at the end of the day, WAB cover all things barnsley, yes maybe putting it on facebook wasnt the best idea, however it is still a news related site, no one is speculating who it is, i think it is enough respect that no names have been mentioned to hide identities, my thoughts are with the young mans family as it is completely inhumane what these people have done, if we are barnsley hear of it first then they should at least report to the rest of barnsley what has happened, they havent gone snooping for it, it is what has been handed to them, at least they have had the decency to tell us that todays society of youth is beyond shameful people have no respect for others and violence is now the way forward.

as a young person myself it is hurtful to know that these YOBO'S reputation is ruining the reputation and giving us young ones a bad name.

give nicky and the team a break guys all they did was post something that the rest of barnsley will find out about eventually and i think they have covered the basics of this story quite professionally.

R.I.P to the young man

Most sincere condolences to his family and friends, WAB bow your head in shame. Report a full accurate story, OR leave well alone. the power of the MEDIA is AWESOME, and not a thing to trifle with, stick to posting locations of speed cameras, leave the REAL news to the PROFESSIONALS

This is terrible, there is just no way of getting your head round such a horrible thing to happen to anyone .

Why are names being mentioned? Have a bit of respect for the family, they might not want it plastered all over the internet just yet

Reply Posted by Disgusted on Monday June 25 2012 at 20:45
My heart goes out to his family, what pain that boy has suffered before his passing must have been horrific. R.I.P. young man and lets hope the people responsible for his death never has peace.

Looks like it --- surely anything that appears in THE STAR is subject to Copyright , and can not be simply "cut n pasted" to be used on this so called "news page"

<3 such a sad horrific thing, its unreal that there are people living in our society who are capable if such terrible things. Facebook is a very strong way to make things public, I think its great that WAB are putting things out to make us parents aware that these things do happen and to reminde us to keep our children safe. Sympathy for the boys family and friends xxxxxxx

Reply Posted by on Tuesday June 26 2012 at 08:26
Actually no - what we have done is carried the police statement. The same police statement was sent to all media and the stories are bound to be similar as you cannot deviate from the factual statements. I actually find your accusations really sly and offensive. WAB works hard to check and double check our stories - we never 'cut and paste'. If you'd like me to send you the police statement that was sent to ALL journalists I'd be happy to. What worries me more however, is when a family has gone through such a trauma as this, all you can do is criticise us and accuse us of lazy journalism - which is not what we are about at all.

I have been a journalist for 13 years Stuart - I'm unsure how you think the story above is unaccurate, especially since it was taken from the official police statement.

Reply Posted by on Tuesday June 26 2012 at 08:30
The only reason we carried this story is because we were sent the official statement requesting information from the police. We have reported the facts as they were given to us in an official statement.

Reply Posted by Lauren on Tuesday June 26 2012 at 08:49
instead of arguing if this story should be publicised or whatever it is your arguing about isnt this meant for sending condolences to the victims familys and showing our support as a community that we a fully behind the police and the investigation to get this young 18yr old lad some justice so he can rest in peace knowing that the people who did this to him will be punised

Reply Posted by Smudge on Tuesday June 26 2012 at 08:56
Can I just say I have lived in Barnsley all of my life and have always loved living here. I cannot believe that there is animals like this in our community. My thoughts are with all of his family and friends. Lets keep our fingers crossed that justice is done. RIP young man.

Reply Posted by George on Tuesday June 26 2012 at 11:52
Navemak, I knew the the fella personally , wab are only reporting what has been published by police. They have not conjured up some random story, what a lot of people dont understand is that one of the main reasons this infomation has been published is to gather any information on the happenings within the case.  Names cannot be published as a full investigation has to go through first. Have a bit of common sence and learn your facts and tribulations before you go spowting your rubbish.

So why have a dig at me??
I wasn't the first one to mention you "cut & paste" the story.... it was Morrall

My step son knew the 18 year old victim............as you can imagine i am at a loss for words. i myself think it should be put out there so myself as a parent can make my children aware of the dangers on our streets ................my heart goes out to this young boys parents family and freinds lets all say a prayer for them tonight they are the ones needing the help and support now..........and if anyone does no anything no matter how little they think it may be please go to the police because these people need removing from our streets and showing that we as human beings will not tolerate such attrocities. RIP young man

Billy - I just put the comment on to clarify the situation for ALL the people speculating about the origins of the story...not just you...

What almost all of these are regional NEWS sites. Without checking I can tell you that not one of them put the headline next to someone whos worried about his insurance claim not getting through and a local campaign to save a donkey from making too much noise. NONE invited discussion. If I want news I go to a news site. Grow up Craig.

Reply Posted by Guestymcguest on Tuesday June 26 2012 at 16:09
Maybe thats becuase ITV use actual reporters and send people out to cover stories The photos are irrelevent to most people.  ITV is a regional tv channel not some two bit gossip site. Also no room for comments below either showing sensitivity to the case.

Reply Posted by on Tuesday June 26 2012 at 16:36
Two bit gossip site? Wow...nice to hear that being an experienced journalist of 13 years counts for nothing in your book! To comfort you Guesty I am an actual reporter that has worked on regional newspapers as well as national magazines and websites! WAB is a NEWS site. We report community news - anything and everything. I'm sorry that you don't agree with that but think this debate is getting a bit off topic now - the fact is a teenager as died. Surely that should be our main concern??

Dear Wab and readers.Could I make a suggestion here. How about until all the facts are available to the public such stories should be reported but without the chance for the public to speculate or (as has been seen on the wab facebook and website), vile comments and major rumours. therefore I suggested that the chance to comment be removed until all the facts are published by the Police and therefore sparing the poor families and those close to the people involved any further grief.

I was imprtessed by the following statement found on another facebook page. This gives the idea of what I mean

"Important Notice: Gay Barnsley have been in communication with South Yorkshire Police regarding an incident involving an 18 year old male from Cudworth. Six people have been arrested and questioned by the police regarding the incident. From the subsequent investigation it is has become apparent that the incident was NOT a homophobic one and in no way should be considered a hate crime. (If you feel it necessary to make comment on this issue, please take into consideration the people and families involved. Any comments seen as inappropriate by myself will be reported and you will be blocked).".

Take a hint all you reporters.....Speculation of any kind ion a matter such as this poor young man is NEVER helpful and always HURTFUL....

Come on goverment get tuff on this underbelly in society we are all sick of you pussy footing around!!!!
