BARNSLEY Council has issued a statement to quash rumours that it was a jubilee killjoy.

Rumours started on Facebook that residents of Grimethorpe had been asked to remove their Union Jack flags from their homes.

In a statement issued on the council Facebook page, Bob Williams, head of communications, said: "You can be reassured that the council has said no such thing.

"We are supporting and encouraging communities across the borough to celebrate the Jubilee weekend.

What a load of bollox ------- I live in Grimethorpe, I am in the house ALL day EVERY day and no van with a speaker on top has come around any part of Grimethorpe asking people to take flags down.

Another case of BNP spouting off lies trying to excite racial haterid
