Every House To Be Offered Plastic Recycling

Monday August 22 2011

EVERY house in Barnsley is to be covered under a major expansion of Barnsley Council's kerbside plastic bottle recycling scheme.
From early September, another 36,000 properties will be included into the scheme which already covers over 70,000 local households.
Depending on their normal collection day, the following areas will also receive the service on or after 6 September: Goldthorpe, Thurnscoe, Bolton-upon-Dearne, Great Houghton, Lundwood, Ardsley, Stairfoot and those properties in Cudworth, Darfield, Monk Bretton and Wombwell not already covered.
In addition all properties in the town centre, in rural areas and new properties will be able to recycle their plastic bottles.
The recycling service accepts plastic bottles used to contain milk, pop, water, bleach, detergent, shampoo, fabric conditioner, sun tan lotion. It will not accept juice cartons, yoghurt pots, plastic food packaging, any other plastic items.
Coun Roy Miller, Cabinet spokesperson, said: "We know that more people want to recycle and so this expanded service means residents in all areas of Barnsley can now put all their plastic bottles in their brown bin or green box along with glass bottles and cans."
