Police Appeal After Burglary Spate

Monday August 22 2011

POLICE  in Barnsley are appealing for information in connection to two alleged incidents of distraction burglary.
An elderly lady from Victoria Street, Stairfoot, was the first suspected victim last Monday at around 11.50am. A man entered her house claiming to be from the water board to inspect her plumbing system.
It is thought the male went upstairs and inspected different rooms in the house and left with the occupant’s purse.
The second incident, on Thursday, was at around 11.45am - one male confronted an elderly woman at her address on Middlesex Street informing her he was from the water board.
The occupant, again an elderly woman, was not physically hurt; however, similarly to the first incident the woman was left shaken. It is believed a significant amount of cash was taken from the property.
Police have reason to believe the same male was involved in both incidents from last week and are urging anyone with any information to come forward.
The male in connection to this incident is said to be a white male, aged between mid 20’s to early 30’s, between the height of 5ft 6in – 5ft 9in and of a very slim build with short brown hair.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious in the areas around the times of the offences or has information regarding the incidents.
