Drug driver sentenced

Tuesday May 26 2015

A THURNSCOE man has been disqualified from driving and fined after being caught behind the wheel with cannabis in his system.

Michael Allington, 22, of Windsor Street, was stopped by officers on Doncaster Road in Goldthorpe on March 6. He was tested at the roadside and results indicated a positive result for cannabis.

Allington was arrested on suspicion of driving over the prescribed limit and taken to the police station. A blood sample showed he was three times over the limit for cannabis, which is two micrograms per litre of blood.

The 22-year-old pleaded guilty at magistrates’ court on Wednesday (May 20). He was disqualified from driving for 12 months, fined £300 and ordered to pay costs of £115.

South Yorkshire’s Road Policing Chief Inspector Glen Suttenwood said: “We are determined to make our roads in South Yorkshire safer and protect drivers in our county from irresponsible and thoughtless actions of others.”
