Should students be allowed to use Google in exams? A WAB Debate!

Wednesday May 6 2015

Google Google

THE HEAD of one of the biggest exam board's in the UK has hit the headlines after he suggested students should be allowed to Google in exams.

Mark Dawe, the OCR exam board chief executive, spioke out in a Telegraph interiew and said introducing tools like Google or calculators will help teachers assess the way students draw on information and apply it to their learning.

He claims that test answers should be more about understanding what results you are seeing - rather than retaining lots of information in your head.

What do you think? Should students be allowed access to Google?

Ask any older person about learning we would have been accused of cheating, but then go to any checkout at any shop, whatever, and note how many can add up in their heads, not many. Then ask an older person to do it. Which way is progress?

What is this world coming to seriously? I've been left school 13 years and wasn't even allowed to use a calculator in exams most of the time. Allowing kids to use google etc is not a good way for them to learn, you can get the answers for pretty much anything on there but it would stop people from using their brains, making exams far too easy in my opinion and also the results wouldn't be accurate as they would if tools weren't used. You need to be able to use your brain in the real world, you can't rely on google all the time! x

Come now....of course the students should be allowed to use Google during exams.
Surely it is our duty to educate our children in the age-old art of lying, cheating, conniving, backstabbing and purely selfish gain.
Otherwise, where would our next batch of politicians come from?
