BREAKING: Dodworth Nickel Plant Plans Withdrawn

Thursday May 10 2012

CONTROVERSIAL plans to develop a nickel processing and recycling plant in Dodworth have been withdrawn, We Are Barnsley can reveal.

ELG Haniel Metals Ltd planned to transform a disused warehouse at the Fallbank Industrial Estate, Dodworth into a treatment plant for up to 10,000 tonnes of contaminated metal a year. It would be the first of its kind in the UK and would wash and dry high nickel alloys to allow it to be reused by the aerospace industry.

But the plans have been withdrawn after residents organised a protest against the scheme.

Locals organised a petition, a social media campaign and had set up an information section at Dodworth Library encouraging others to protest again the scheme.

They were worried about possible health effects after researching similar facilities in America.

I agree with Lorraine - a famous victory, hope it's not just one battle. What came to light in the struggle was the number of people who didn't know exactly how local Council procedures work. If we're to have a voice in what happens to us, then we need to educate ourselves pdq!

So pollution and potential health risks for the people of Dodworth and the surrounding area  aren't an issue then no? As unfortunate as it is that people in the area are currently out of work it certainly isn't a reason to bring something like this to our village. I say "OUR" village but I'm assuming from your comment you are not from Dodworth.
