Pub Site Set For Pet Store Development

Thursday May 10 2012

A FORMER pub site is to be developed into a pet food store after planning permission was granted last week.

Samantha Walker was given permission to build a two-storey shop with 30 parking spaces on the site of the former Woodman Pub, on Wakefield Road, which was left derelict after a fire.

Yet again people moaning! Is that all some of you do? Any development is good news. It means the eyesore will be gone and jobs will be created!

Can't win really with some people.

Glad to see some people still have confidence in the market.  I for one am pleased that the site will be re-developed and the impact on the highway will have been assessed carefully at the planning application stage.  i hope the new venture is a success.  Good luck to the owners

Acess to it wont be on wakefield road. Its supposidly going to be accessed via Quarry street so Wakefield road shouldnt be affected

Great that it's been redeveloped as it certainly needs it round there but does Barnsley need another pet shop?

i agree how many pet shops do we need?,what a waste! it may create a couple of jobs but what about the trade its taking away from the already established pet shops.and its in a bad spot anyway, good luck to whoever is going to the expense to create it cos i think they'll need it!

Good on Samantha Walker for working hard and having ambition. I hope it is very successful and congratulations to the lucky people who get to work there. Not so long ago people were moaning there are no jobs and then when someone creates a job opportunity all the same people do is slate it. We either wants jobs and growth in this town or not but unfortunately in order to grow and develop we will get more than one type of each shop and an increase in traffic. I think before slating other people we all need to sit back and think 'what have you done today to make you feel proud?' and I think Samantha Walker can hold her head up high and give a decent answer...dunno about some of you moaners!

better another pet food shop than yet another pub in Barnsley heaven forbid we should have something else that sells something other than beer! get a grip seriously! well done for opening a new business at least some one is out there making a life for her self not sat down the pub all day which clearly the moaners on here are.
more people should be opening new venutres if they want to. I will be shopping here once it is open.

its not a pet shop? its a pet food store and the pub is already flat and was bombed because it could no longer survive

why is everyone complaining about a pet food store only other thing that would be put there would probably be more shoebox houses which will create traffic

It,s a pet food store NOT strip or lap dancing club for gods sake .

We have an Asda and a Morrisons in town but they are building a Lidl and a Sainsburys and a Tesco. Now if I was a moaner I would say God how many supermarkets do we need, but that would be stupid because they all have their own ranges as well as different prices and people like options. I don't see how being able to choose between Pets at Home and this place is any different for goodness' sake! Quit moaning at absolutely ever piece of news on the site! I bet if there was an article saying the council was giving everyone £100 someone would find summat to moan about!
