A £1 million investment into the Metrodome's swimming pool has yielded record results for visitor numbers.

Barnsley Premier Leisure - which manage the site - say since Calypso Cove opened in February thousands of locals have been flocking to visit.

In 2011 the Easter holidays brought in just over 15,000 swimmers but this year the number rocketed by nearly 7,000 bringing footfall to 21,700.

Facility Manager Joni Millthorpe said: “We have had an extremely successful period at the Metrodome. The statistics for swimming this year speak for themselves and the feedback regarding Calypso Cove has been fantastic with both the children and adults enjoying the new features.

“It’s great to see a positive effect on the community following the investment, it really makes everything worthwhile seeing the Metrodome busy and buzzing with excitement.”

Whilst the pool is much better they really need to sort the family changing rooms out as it is chaos in there most weekends. Went last Sunday only to find that we were only allowed 1.5 hrs swim time instead of the usual 2 hrs yet was still charged the full price (there was a sign in reception stating this!) plus the pool, shower and changing room areas were freezing. It's great that they have spent £1m improving the pool but what about sorting the above now that so many more people are using it!!

I am not that impressed to be honest ...the water in the pool last Thursday tea time was freezing. We took a 2 year old and her teeth were chattering the whole time. We could not use the babypool to warm her up as it was being used for lessons. Think yourself lucky you had 90 mins as we were only allowed 55 minutes as it was closing as it was being used as a polling station ...the price wasn't reduced either. Don't think we will be returning in a hurry !
