Response Warning Given By Fire Chief

Wednesday February 25 2015

SOUTH Yorkshire's fire chief has warned residents theat response times will be "severely depleted" today.

Chief fire officer James Courtney has contingency plans in place to provide emergency cover during a 24-hour strike, which started at 7am and lasts until 7am tomorrow.

But its emergency response service will be reduced, with significantly fewer fire engines available to respond to 999 calls.

James said: "In a genuine emergency we will get there, but it will take us longer than normal.

"With that in mind, now's the ideal time to test your smoke alarms and make sure you have an escape plan for getting out of your house quickly and safely in the event of a fire."
