Nursery Threatened With Demolition Asks For Move

Monday April 30 2012

A POPULAR nursery which has been threatened with demolition has asked for permission to relocate as the school grounds it sits in is being sold off.

Kingpins Nursery and Health and Wellbeing Centre - sited in the grounds of Kingstone School - has been served with a demolition notice as the council plans to dispose of the land when the school amalgamates and moves to the new Horizon Community College on Dodworth Road in September.

A planning application has now been submitted to move the nursery into the grounds of Shaw Lane Sports Club instead in a move that is expected to protect the jobs of the 13 people who work on site.

Kingpins was established in 2004 and looks after 42 children. It was extended in 2009 to provide an integrated learning space with IT workstations, and internet access.

Barnsley Council is now considering the application.
