Troubled Town Centre School Impresses Ofsted

Tuesday January 27 2015

A TOWN centre school previously judged to be inadequate is celebrating after inspectors found it to be a 'good' school.

Shawlands Primary was visited by Ofsted following a number of monitoring inspections since it was deemed to have 'serious weaknesses' in July 2013.

All areas including leadership, management, behaviour, quality of teaching and pupils' achievement were found to be good.

Head Lee McClure and Julie Brown, executive head of school, said in a joint statement: "We have secured ‘good’ outcomes in all areas and this is testament to the hard work and dedication of all of the school community.

"We have worked with parents, children, staff, governors and the wider community to make Shawlands a better place to be.

"Everyone has worked so hard to give our children the best possible opportunity to reach their full potential.

"The report also confirms what we always knew: Shawlands pupils are a credit to our school and our community. The pupils are polite, keen to learn and a delight to work with, and they deserve the best."
