Reds Climb Table After Deserved Win

Monday December 22 2014

DANNY Wilson's 1,000th game as a manager ended in victory as the Reds beat Leyton Orient 2-0 at Oakwell.

Conor Hourihane got Barnsley off to the perfect start in the opening quarter. The midfielder made no mistake and cleverly rounded goalkeeper Adam Legzdins after good work from Kane Hemmings.

Dale Jennings - fresh from his two-goal haul in the FA Cup replay win against Chester - then crossed to Devante Cole who made it two in the 38th minute.

Dean Cox twice went close for the visitors, but the Reds held out despite Ross Turnbull's sending off with 20 minutes to play.

The win, which lifts Barnsley up to 14th in the League One standings, means they're just five points off the play-off places in what's been a largely inconsistent first half of the season.

Wilson said: "We scored two terrific goals in the first half and then the second half we've seen the other side of our character.

"There's only been two occasions in the game when our goalkeeper has had anything to do, so that says how hard we've worked in front of him.

"It's a great win against a very good side."
