Thousands Donated To Barnsley Animal Charity

Thursday December 11 2014

A PET insurance firm has donated £10,000 to an animal rescue centre in Barnsley.

Animal Friends Pet Insurance presented a cheque to Barnsley Animal Rescue Charity (BARC) last week as part of its Christmas giveaway.

The donation was made in respect of the hard work of centre staff and volunteers who improve the lives of thousands of cats, dogs, rabbits and guinea pigs every year.

BARC - which is entirely funded by donations - is one of the largest rescue centres in Yorkshire. They were set up in 1995 when many shelters were still euthanising animals who were considered to be 'too difficult' to rehome.

Accepting the cheque, trustee Kevin Proctor said: "This money will make such a difference to the centre and to the animals of Yorkshire.

"It will be used to extend the isolation pen that so badly needs extending so we can bring in more dogs and keep them isolated in the beginning of the re-homing process."
